I have always believed stories about people seeing their own apparitions, apparitions of their dearly departed and other stories of that category. One thing I wasn’t sure about was doppelgangers. According to stories, a doppelganger is a creature that resembles you or someone you love down to every minute detail. It’s almost like the German equivalent of the Wendigo. I started to believe after a scary encounter with my own in 2009.
I had just gotten home from school and got a call from my girlfriend. She asked why I was walking towards a library on the other side of town. I told her I wasn’t, but she insisted that she saw me. He had the same red hair, pale skin, and slight limp in his right leg (I had pulled a tendon the previous week). I swore that whoever it was, it sure as heck wasn’t me. I figured she was joking or just plain lying. However, I remembered that jokes and lying weren’t exactly priorities for her. I figured she made a mistake and forgot about it.
A couple weeks later, I had just arrived for work and one of my co-workers asked “Weren’t you just here getting a soda half an hour ago?” I confirmed that I had been home half an hour ago. He insisted that someone who looked exactly like me had gotten a soda. I was starting to get freaked out because he barely knew me, so seeing me would stick out in his mind, since he had never seen someone like me before I started working there. I continued to tell him that he must’ve made a mistake, but he was adamant that he didn’t. I told him that i was an only child, so it couldn’t be a twin and it sure as heck wasn’t my cousins, because they all look different and only 2 of them live in the state, but many, many miles away. I tried to focus on work, but his claims put me so off-track, the manager sent me home early, and I made the excuse that I hadn’t slept well the previous night. She told me to take care of myself. When I got back, my girlfriend called me and asked if it was me she saw on a city bus this time. I told her it was. For some reason, she immediately hung up after I said that.
