Doppleganger at the Park

I have always believed stories about people seeing their own apparitions, apparitions of their dearly departed and other stories of that category. One thing I wasn’t sure about was doppelgangers. According to stories, a doppelganger is a creature that resembles you or someone you love down to every minute detail. It’s almost like the German equivalent of the Wendigo. I started to believe after a scary encounter with my own in 2009.

I had just gotten home from school and got a call from my girlfriend. She asked why I was walking towards a library on the other side of town. I told her I wasn’t, but she insisted that she saw me. He had the same red hair, pale skin, and slight limp in his right leg (I had pulled a tendon the previous week). I swore that whoever it was, it sure as heck wasn’t me. I figured she was joking or just plain lying. However, I remembered that jokes and lying weren’t exactly priorities for her. I figured she made a mistake and forgot about it.

A couple weeks later, I had just arrived for work and one of my co-workers asked “Weren’t you just here getting a soda half an hour ago?” I confirmed that I had been home half an hour ago. He insisted that someone who looked exactly like me had gotten a soda. I was starting to get freaked out because he barely knew me, so seeing me would stick out in his mind, since he had never seen someone like me before I started working there. I continued to tell him that he must’ve made a mistake, but he was adamant that he didn’t. I told him that i was an only child, so it couldn’t be a twin and it sure as heck wasn’t my cousins, because they all look different and only 2 of them live in the state, but many, many miles away. I tried to focus on work, but his claims put me so off-track, the manager sent me home early, and I made the excuse that I hadn’t slept well the previous night. She told me to take care of myself. When I got back, my girlfriend called me and asked if it was me she saw on a city bus this time. I told her it was. For some reason, she immediately hung up after I said that.

Shadow in the lightning

I have always been intimidated by the strength of storms in place like Pennsylvania, New York, Kansas, and Texas. But, in some states, they’re especially nasty. During the 2015 hurricane season, I took a trip to Florida with 3 friends and decided to stay on the shore unless a hurricane was coming. There was a chance of rain, but I didn’t mind. I had no idea this would lead to one of the most terrifying nights of my life.

At 4 PM the day we arrived, I took a look out over the water and saw something that worried me. The horizon had as one of my friends described “angry” clouds. We also had a cold wind blowing around us, and the air was chilly, yet electrified. I said “Looks like we’re gonna get one of those pop-up storms. We better get inside.” We got inside the chalet we had rented and decided to just wait out the storm. Though I was nervous, I didn’t want to appear wimpy, so I acted like it was no big deal. One of my friends had brought a handheld radio, so we listened to the news. After a Severe T-Storm warning for where we were, we heard a report about an escaped convict from a prison somewhere in Orlando. We were in Miami, so I thought we were safe. 2 of my friends didn’t care, but my only female friend was clearly freaking out. Turns out she had a reason to.

At 8 PM, the storm was STILL going on. My friend who droves us to Florida took out his phone and showed me the radar. We were in a line that was moving from East to West. With all the red, orange, and yellow, it was clear that we weren’t getting off easy. As one moved away, another followed it. I happened to look out the window and saw a huge shape. At first I thought it was just shadows in shadows. The next flash of lightning illuminated something that I really wish it hadn’t. In the light I saw a scowling face in a hat and overcoat with a large build, and holding a steak knife. He was tapping on the window with that very same knife. One of my friends dove into the bedroom, then ran out with a pistol. My female friend the other both dived into the bathroom, but my other male friend overshot his jump, and hit his head on the sink, knocking him out. I was terrified, because I’m small, my female friend was freaked, one of my friends was out cold, and the other couldn’t keep his hand steady. I just took out my phone and called 911. I calmly explained what the problem was and when I looked back out the window, the man was gone. My friend put the pistol on the floor, then slapped me on the back while saying “Nice job, bud! You scared him off!” I was relieved and terrified. The next day, I saw someone in the hospital where my friend was being treated for his concussion. When I asked her what the blood-stained shirt was from, she told me some psycho with a steak knife had stabbed her. I later learned that the guy with the steak knife was the escaped convict and he had mental issues. I still wonder, if my friends hadn’t taken cover, if I hadn’t called 911, if my friend hadn’t brought a gun, what would have happened? Now, whenever a storm approaches, I always think about that man, his knife, and the terrifying night in Miami.

Attacked on Ghost Mountain Road – Duplicate

I’ve been known to drive around aimlessly at times. Usually, I end up at a diner, laundromat, 24-hour store or someone’s house. However, I seem to have bad luck when it comes to having a destination in mind. 2016 was such a year. It was a year when an innocent trip became a night of unspeakable horror.

I was driving up to New York to visit my wife’s brother, Thomas.

As soon as I got on a lonely road, I got a sense that we were being watched. My wife was drumming her fingers on her arm rest, which is something she only does when she’s agitated. It was a warm night, so I thought opening a window would calm her down. However, as soon as i started to lower the window, she said “I swear to God, if you don’t put it back up, I’ll punch you!” Her tone made it clear that disobeying would be felt for days to come.

Presque Isle sequel

Anyone who’s been to Presque Isle State Park knows it’s a picturesque setting that seems as calm as can be. Being a small strip of land off the coast of Pennsylvania is a nice little touch, since I’ve lived in that state pretty much my whole life. What a lot of people don’t know is that in 1966, a strange report from 4 teenagers rocked the sleepy area. I had no idea when reading about it online, that the 50th anniversary would be just as bizarre.

In 2016, I decided to take some time off from the hustle and bustle of city life, and took a trip to Presque Isle. Other than the Ben Franklin Institute and Valley Forge outdoor mall, it was 1 of the few things in the state that I had always wanted to see, but never got the chance to until I moved out. Anyway, as I arrived, I noticed that there were a ton of people in boats, canoes, vehicles, you name it. I asked a motorist why there was such a commotion. He said “You know what today is? July 31st. It was right here, 50 years ago that teens saw a UFO Land. We’re hoping for something similar. I’ll be famous!” I told him that I honestly doubted 1 small UFO sighing would bring him fame, since he was 1 of at least 60,000 people who would immediately say “I believe in aliens!” if they were asked, me among them. I decided that, as long as those people kept quiet, I could still enjoy my time there.

Since it was still the early afternoon, I decided to do some exploring, but things got weirder. I saw a small group of hippies playing music and singing “The aliens will come and take us away. To a place where we cannot trek.” Rather than talk to people who may be legitimately insane, I decided to instead walk past them. As I did, I caught a small glint out of the corner of my eye. I whipped my head in the direction I saw it, but saw nothing. I decided it must have been a trick of the light. As I continued walking, I saw 4 people with telescopes. When they caught me staring, a little boy dressed as the prototypical alien for Halloween (as in he was dressed like it was Halloween, not 3 months away.) told me “We don’t want to see the aliens, we wanna see the ship.” Though the majority there were strange, it was nice to see so many enthusiasts. However, that small glint was still gnawing at me. If I had known that was preemptive to a grand finale, I would’ve just rolled with it.

Willistead Manor Haunting

I’d like to start this off by saying, I am a very loyal subscriber to Darkness Prevails and love the cryptic tales that are frequently posted. The paranormal intrigues me greatly, and I’ve always wondered what it would be like to experience one of these terrifying encounters. Call me crazy, but I sometimes even wish something frightening or paranormal would happen to me, just so I could feel the rush and mysteriousness that comes along with it. It’s just something I crave. However after what happened last night, yes, last night (May 5th, 2018), I’m not sure I ever want to step foot outside of the house again past midnight. Here is my experience.

It was almost midnight, and my friends and I were heading to Tim Horton’s after watching Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare. We’re all seventeen, and for my friends’ safety/privacy, let’s just call them: Nate, Danny, and Mike. Now, I won’t spoil anything, but it wasn’t exactly the greatest horror movie we’ve ever seen. In fact, the ending was so pathetic that we were laughing about it during the entire car ride to Tim’s.

After getting some food, hanging out and then dropping off Nate at his house, it was about 1:00 AM. Myself, Danny, and Mike were allowed out as long as we wanted because our parents were sleeping and I had my sister’s car. For the first hour or so, we drove around town stopping by a few of the elementary schools that we knew of in the area and climbed them. Yes, I know that’s considered trespassing and it’s kind of illegal, but it’s just a hobby that we picked up recently and we mean no harm at all. It’s just something that gives a rush of adrenaline, which I enjoy as I mentioned earlier.

However, as soon as i started to lower the window, she said “I swear to God, if you don’t put it back up, I’ll punch you!” Her tone made it clear that disobeying would be felt for days to come. I immediately put the window back up and asked her what her problem was. She stared at me for about 5 minutes without saying a word. “We’re on Ghost Mountain Road” she said. I immediately braked and asked her “Are you sure?” She nodded and told me that my reaction must mean I heard about Ghost Mountain Road in the PA, NY area. I nodded and told her all the stories I heard. It didn’t take long for me to realize why she was so agitated. The stories that came out of Ghost Mountain Road were strange, bizarre, scary, and downright disturbing. I decided to try turning around, but I wasn’t able to, because what happened next is something I’ll never forget.

I had just shifted into reverse, when a gang of 8 albinos ran out of the woods, and started punching, kicking, whipping, and smacking my Camry. I didn’t know where they got the whips and had no interest in asking because they were clearly focused on possibly hurting me, my wife, or both. I started to honk my horn to scare them off, but they didn’t relent. I started to call the police, but then remembered that even the cops wanted to stay away and refused to patrol the mountain alone. I felt like I was standing at the gates of Hell. All of a sudden, I saw a face loom at my window and I screamed bloody murder. All I saw was white skin, red hair, and (freakiest of all) violet eyes. It was a female albino. To be honest, I had NEVER seen a female albino. If I wasn’t panicking at that moment, I probably would’ve found her mildly attractive. But, due to the circumstances, I was fearing for my life. I decided to take a huge risk, and did something that was both brave and extremely stupid. I took out a flare gun, which I only had for emergencies, and opened my window just enough to fire a flare. As soon as it cracked, the albinos got scared and ran back into the woods. My wife was so terrified, she immediately vomited on the floor. I saw a scratch mark on my window and knew if I hadn’t had the flare gun, one or both of us would’ve likely been stabbed.

The “glider”

Me and my best friend Joseph used to play in this huge cornfield by my house. We spent all day in that field, we knew it like the back of our hands. We would usually go there early and play around until sunset. The reason I’m telling you this is so you understand a little more how crazy this event really was.

It happened roughly a year ago. Me and Joseph were playing in the field as usual. But this time we didn’t go home at sunset. We were both old enough to be left home alone. Besides me and Joseph there wasn’t anyone at my house. So we made the “wise” choice of staying out after dark in the field. And let me tell you something, I’ve regretted that decision since the day I made it.

We knew the area well enough to wander around in the dark. But nothing could’ve prepared us for what was to come. Everyone in our county would talk about flying humanoids. I never believed any of the stories. People usually mentiond them at campfires and events like that. Most people just called them gliders, I don’t know why but they did. I never believed in the paranormal until thus event took place.
