This story was relayed by my father exactly once, shortly after it happened, to a roomful of adults. I was five at the time, and clearly not meant to hear it. I have asked him about it since, and he claimed to have no idea what I was talking about.
In the summer of 1992, Burger King ran a campaign offering inflatable toys with the Disney characters, Figaro and Cleo, on them. I remember that my brother and I had one, and then one day, it was just gone. I didn’t understand why until I heard my father tell his story.
He would work during the night time and come home very late. He was standing in our dark kitchen one night, making himself some dinner and a drink. According to him, our inflatable Figaro toy was sitting high up, on top of a cabinet. To this day, I have no idea why it would have been there, or how it would have gotten there, since that was a highly unusual place to find anything of ours.
