Banshee in the creek

Hey, its me again, the woodsman, i saw that darkness is looking for campfire stories so guess i could share the story that keeps me from camping out in my woods anymore. This is one of many, many odd things that has happened on this property of mine. I really didn’t realize what i was getting into when i bought this new house in the middle of the woods.

But hey, I’m surviving i guess.

By the time that the events in this story took place, i had already experienced quite a few things on this property. And this was easily the third freakiest thing to happen up to that point, right behind the naked stab victim that cried like a newborn baby and cartwheeled our into the woods, but that’s another tale.

This time i had decided that i wanted to go camping. Despite all the stuff that had happened, i had never been seriously injured in those woods, SO WHY NOT GO SLEEP IN THEM.

Bad choice i know. Anyways, the first few hours when i get into the woods go fine, i set up camp, build a fire, burn myself trying to cook a hot dog, pee on fire that burnt me. Then i started to realize… camping is pretty boring when you’re all alone. So i decided to go to sleep.

Next thing i know i wake up to the sound of a young girls voice down in the creek, sounds like she’s college type age.

She’s saying, “help i need some help down here, I’m lost, dad? Help!” And i can hear her down in the creek, from my tent.

Now this isn’t the first time I’ve been lured into the woods by a voice pleading for help. But this voice was a lot more convincing that the others. Non the less i still brought my newly purchased .45 caliber hand gun that i had bought for dealing with, the things, on the land.

I made my way into the creek, flashlight in hand and headed down to the voice. Soon i find the source. Now i didn’t put the flashlight beam on her right away because i didn’t want to blind her.

But i could clearly see the outline of a small girl sitting on the bank of the creek, i got about fifteen feet away and she stopped me, stating that “you really don’t need that flashlight with the moon out like this”. It wasn’t even a full moon so that confused me a little, i replied with, “i don’t know bout you but i can’t see a thing out here, lemme me help you though, are you hurt?”

Then i started to shine the flashlight on her but she screamed “STOP” before i got to her face. This time her voice wasn’t as convincing, i could tell she wasn’t human.

Now, what you guys need to realize is that I’m not a badass, and I’m not trying to sound cool or tough. But ever since something happened three years ago.

The same event that caused me to move out here. I don’t respond to situations the same anymore. Maybe I’m not scared of death anymore. Maybe I’m mentally unstable.

Maybe I’m weird.

But when i establishes that this thing wasn’t human, i started to smile, it fooled me, got me out here in the woods, in it’s domain, and was probably going to make an attempt on my life. But i might as well piss it off a little. So i flicked my flashlight up and revealed its face.

It actually was a girl, sort of, she was super pale and had abnormally large eyes, that were completely black. When the light hit her face her head snapped forward and made eye contact with me and here jaw dropped open 3 times larger than any human could, and then she screamed.

It was LOUD.

Like in human loud. It sounded like a girls scream but as if it were being played through massive speakers to make it ear splitting. Then i felt something closing around my neck. She hadn’t moved but was somehow choking me. Still screaming.

I have realized while living here that the entities that can hurt you, can also get hurt themselves, now most of them are tough as nails, but they can be hurt.

This memory went through my head just as i felt something warm dripping onto my neck and my left ear went quiet. Busted ear drum.

I aggressively threw my flashlight at the bitch and it connected with what i assume was her eye, i couldn’t tell for sure because i didn’t have a flashlight. And yes i forgot to use the gun. It was new and in the current life or death situation i forgot i had it. Luckily this girl wasn’t one of the tough ones and i felt the grip on my neck loosen and her scream stopped.

No sooner had i taken my first breath when she bent over backwards possession style and sprinted into the woods in reverse. When i finally caught my breath i slowly walked by to my campsite and went to sleep in the tent.

I You may be asking why i didn’t go back home after that but it was a 20 minute hike and my flashlight was broken so i had to wait till morning. Slept pretty good though. No noises woke me up.

I woke up then next morning expecting me ear to be killing me but miraculously it was completely back to normal.

I later figured out that it was the lady in the tree who fixed my ear but once again that’s a story for another time. That morning i just packed up everything and headed back home.

Only thing that got messed up was my flashlight so i wasn’t even that disappointed in the trip. I still don’t camp out there anymore because no matter how weirdly wired i am, that girl really did freak me out a good bit, and I’m sure she’s still out there. That’s pretty much it for this story though, see y’all next time.

Woodsman signing off.

White thing

So for context reasons you should probably know that I live in the woods of the southeast United States, (Alabama).

Im also 17 and still in highschool living with my parents. I love it out here but i can’t lie, some things happen that i can’t really explain.

My brother and I each have a large Great Dane, (mine being a bit larger) and every few nights i feel like i hear them going crazy barking deep in the woods, i obviously get worried and always go out to try to call them back to the house but usually they are already just outside the door on the back porch staring tensely and completely rigid into the woods.

At first i just blamed it on the sound of their barking bouncing off objects and sounding further away than they really are.

After the hunting incident I’m not so sure about that anymore.

The single most intense moment i have experienced on the property happened a couple of months ago during the whitetail deer season. I am usually an avid hunter but i hadn’t been yet that season due to my consentrating on wrestling season which goes on at the same time.

However, one day my dad called me and said my little cousin wanted to go hunting, he proceeded to ask me if i could take him and i immediately agreed,(love that little dude and he is obsessed with hunting).

An hour later we are walking down the trail and i can stop smiling because my cousin looked so happy in his camo outfit. We walk down a very large hill, cross a creek, and walk back up another hill. Now we are at the small house (shooting house) that we hunt out of.

It over looks a large green field that we started planting two years back. Off to the right of me there is a small creek that leads into the creek we had crossed earlier, and some really thick underbrush.

To the left and in front there is green grass that goes out for hundreds of yards.

Unfortunately we didn’t get a deer that day but i did see something white flash through the brush behind the back of the field. It was small, probably 4 feet off the ground, so i assumes it was the tail of a white tailed deer since they tend to run with their tails straight up.

But even if it was just a deer, what the hell was it running from?

We had taken down all the coyotes the year before because they had been stealing chickens and it was to far away to have notice my little cousin and I.

Anyways that didn’t really affect me much during the hunt because i had no reason to believe there was something dark in those woods, i was just frustrated at the lost opportunity at the deer, soon after that though i started hearing walking through the woods to my right on the other side of the small creek and brush.

I shushed my cousin and told him that i think something is walking towards the field. He got a little excited because he though it was a deer that i was hearing. But notice i said something was walking, i knew instantly it wasn’t a deer.

When you hunt long enough you can identify most animals by the sounds they make when walking though the woods. A deer ,for instance, will often take about three steps then pause and look around for danger before walking again.

This unknown creature i was hearing had a similar walking pattern to a squirrel.

It would walk kinda fast then crash like it was coming to a stop very quickly.

But it was no squirrel, squirrels aren’t heavy enough to break twigs and branches. The entity moved around outside of my sight for close to 45 mins before suddenly stopping for good. I was unsettled but still operating like nothing was wrong at this point.

Another hour passed and it got dark so me and my slightly disappointed cousin walked back to the house without any issues. We got to the house and my cousin suddenly chirped, “ oh no, i left my camo bag”. After the disappointing hunt i couldn’t let him go home without his favorite bag so i offered to go down and get it for him even though it was a dark moonless night, and that was the choice that lead me to the single most terrifying moment of my entire life.

Since i didn’t have to worry about scaring off deer i decided to take our new four wheeler.

It is a Yamaha grizzly 750cc and any four wheeler enthusiasts will agree that it is a monster in and of itself. I quickly made it to the shooting house and grabbed to bag and a toboggan that my cousin had also left.

As i hopped back on the four wheeler i looked up just in time to see a small white figure dash out of the corner of the headlight beam at an impossible pace.

The memory of those footsteps in the brush came rushing back and i decided I’m about to use 750ccs to get back to the house.

I whip around at a speed that wouldn’t be approved of by many sane people and headed down into the creek. Then suddenly I heard foot steps splashing though the water behind me at what sounded like mock 7.

I can hear these steps over the roar of i massive atv engine which shouldn’t be possible.

And i CANNOT STRESS HOW FAST IT SOUNDED. It was comparable to the speed of a jackhammer breaking concrete, but it was on water. I look back and see a small white humanoid this black hair half the length of its body.

And the only reason i could see it was because ITV was close enough to me that my red tail light was illuminating it.

This was enough, i pushed in the gas as hard as i could and sent dirt and debris flying behind me, i wasn’t flying out of the creek and ripping a completely new trail back up the giant hill that leads to my house.

I hit a bump at this insane speed and the four wheeler went airborne. This didn’t phase me at this point and as i landed 15 feet from when i left the ground i wasn’t already full throttle again.

I whipped into the gravel driveway at enough speed to but deep ruts in it, and hopped off drawing my buck knife as landed on the ground and scanning the area.

First thing i noticed, the creature wasn’t anywhere that i could see. Second thing i noticed, neither was my cousin.

I was past terror and getting furious at this point. Chase me, i run, mess with my 6 year old cousin, you run. I was about to take off into the woods yelling his name wh So for context reasons you should probably know that I live in the woods of the southeast United States, (Alabama).

I was about to take off into the woods yelling his name when i glanced over and saw him looking out of one of the windows of my house looking pretty shaken up. I ran inside and asked if he was allright and he said that he got scared when he heard me flying through to woods, he asked if i wasn’t running away from something and i just said “nah big dude i was doing it for fun” which calmed him down pretty quick.

As he left that night my dad asked me why i wasn’t really driving like a madman but i gave him a look that said “I’m not going to talk about it” and he said, just don’t mess up that four wheeler and left me alone.

Since then not much has happened, i still hear my dogs barking out in the woods when i know they are on the porch but other than that the thing hasn’t made another in person appearance.

I am ok with that. But that thing better believe that if either of my dogs, or family members are hurt or taken in those woods. I will blast the little white thing back to the gates of hell that it came out of.

What We Encountered in the Woods

I lived in Tennessee and was a big fan of camping and hiking. In 2006, me, my girlfriend, my cousin and four other friends had gone on a hiking trip. My girlfriend’s uncle had a rather large property he sometimes allowed people to stay at. In one remote corner of this land he even had a remote cabin he would rent out occasionally and this property was connected to a “no man’s land” as some people called it. You could go out there, as some of us had before and not see another sign of people.

We intended to rough it along the back trails with the intention to camp overnight. After a long hike, it got dark so we built a fire, set up our small tents, had a couple of beers, cooked a few hot dogs over the flames. It was pleasantly uneventful until near midnight. We had been telling stories when suddenly, my cousin started looking off into the dark and began trying to shush us.

After a few seconds of quiet I started to ask what was happening when he bluntly told me hush up. “I’m hearing like, voices out there. I think.”

We all stayed quiet for the next minute, my cousin swearing he heard a voice or voices calling out there past the treeline in the distance. Soon, we started catching what sounded like the faintest yell, that we couldn’t quite make out, and a few of us started yelling out to whoever was out there in the dark, trying to get a response. We thought maybe someone was lost.

“HELLO! IS SOMEBODY THERE? ARE YOU LOST?” my girlfriend yelled, joined in by one of my friends, shouting through his cupped hands: “Heeeelllooooo!! Over heeeeeeeerre!”

All we heard in reply was what sounded like the muffled voices of two people, as if they were calling from a great distance, but it sounded like there was somebody moving around just on the far side of the nearby treeline and they couldn’t have been greater than 100 yards away. More echoing shouts came from that area but were still indiscernible. It sounded like two people shouting at the same time.

Increasingly I became nervous, wondering who was moving around there, imagining backwoods creeps playing games with their victims. Here, at midnight, something was wrong I felt. For a short while we heard nothing. One of my friends went to his gear and retrieved the old Ruger Bearcat .22 revolver that his father given to him as a gift. “If someone wants to rush our camp, I’d like for us to be ready.” I nodded, feeling on edge.

“Hey, do you need help?” my cousin shouted again. In response came two voices shouting vaguely again, still sounding as distant as before. Before, they hand sounded like someone shouting words, even if we couldn’t quite make it them. Now, the shouts were loud and garbled, wordless shouts and baying noises. Someone was moving around out there. My girlfriend said what I was thinking, quietly “Who are these people, why are they here, messing around somebody’s camp, now?”

For the next half hour there was silence besides the fire and the nightlife. We sat on guard around our fire, straining to listen and during that stretch we heard no more shouting or footfalls. Resolving to put a .22 round in anybody that came barging into our circle.

Several minutes later we heard what sounded like people moving about only a short distance past the light cast by our fire, footfalls and the crackle of branches and leaves. Like somebody was staggering about at a brisk speed. A couple of us expected someone to step in to the light but nobody did. Suddenly it stopped. Not another voice was heard. No footfalls or crunching of grass or branches were heard which would indicate that whoever these people were had stepped towards our camp or departed in the opposite way.

All of us were nervous, especially with how the sounds of footsteps had just stopped instead of moving away. Certain that somebody was just watching us from off a ways and waiting for us to fall asleep, we managed to organize ourselves to sleep in shifts, at least two people to stay awake while the others slept in our tents. Wasn’t easy, especially with an odd numbered group but the rest of the night passed without incident.

In the morning, we gathered our gear and decided to leave, the appeal of being out in the woods having vanished in the night. What disturbed me was how far off the voices had sounded yet how closely the movements had come near us, and how they had disappeared. I was certain this was not just some people deciding to prank some campers or sneaking backwoodsmen having a good laugh.

Something Wasn’t Right

I’m going to start by saying that I’m not exactly sure what me and a few friends experienced fully, but there was definitely something strange with us that night. This story takes place in Fall of 2017 and I was 16. Me and a few friends went to a cabin campout with our Boy Scout Troop. The first night we got there it was the normal routine of unpacking and setting up our things, making sure you set up near one of the power outlets which me and a friend got and shared one of the two in the room. The next morning was fairly normal. Hanging out, talking, playing card games and on the GameCube someone brought with and we played via a projector we brought with.

By the time lunch came around we were out of the water we brought with so I and a few others were tasked with walking approximately a mile maybe a little less to a water pump to fill up the three 5 gallon jugs we had. Now me, being the biggest one out of the group that was sent carried them but I knew that there was no possible way I could carry these things all that back. One sure but physically impossible to do all three or two for that matter. So we looked for something to help us on the way and found a sort of cart by some wooden building on the path there. It had two big wheels, a wooden body and a bar that stuck out the front enough for me to fit in it and push it with the box like thing behind me to pull the water jugs. (It looked like the one I shared in the picture but a little longer and more worn down). We used this and filled up the water which took longer than it should have due to the other kids messing around with the pump. The pump was in front of a shower house with a lone light and near a lake (this will be relevant later). So after that we used this cart to bring the heavy jugs back and went on with our day.

Well by the time might cane around they needed to be filled AGAIN and of course instead of waking up early when it was light, my friend and I were sent to go. So I threw on my coat and some gloves to go out since it was cold and we each took a flashlight. We started walking, me with the cart again to make it easy on us. From the moment I stepped out the door I had the sketchiest feeling ever about being out there. I couldn’t describe it. Like the feeling of being watched and that you know something is going to happen. I tried to calm myself but I kept hearing noises in the distance and seeing movement out of the corners of my eyes.

When we reached an spot in the path not to far from the cabin where there was a little fenced area with canoes, kayaks, and things like that. My body froze and this feeling tripled. I told my friend about the feeling before but he kept saying it was nothing. I finally said at that point “I can’t do this. This shit is way too weird. We’ll get up at first light.” He wasn’t having it but went back anyway to get someone to go. I felt bad but I truly had the feeling I was going to die there. We went in and I told one of the leaders but they said it was probably just animals. We had heard and seen coyote the noght before and during the day. I was completely planning on staying but then my friend said something along the lines of “I’m going to get some real men to go with me.” Well right then and there I knew I couldn’t let him insult me like that but we figured a couple more people wouldn’t hurt supposing something did try anything we’d team up on it.

So with a couple more people and an extra powerful headband flashlight loaned to me, we went back out and the feeling came back. We started walking and again by that fenced area I got the feeling tripled but just walked faster past it. Now everyone started sharing my feeling but not as bad so we all kept an eye out and noticed animal tracks that weren’t there before. We reached the pump and filled the water while me and my friend loomed around. The lone yellowish light from the shower house left huge areas of creepy shadow and noises coming from the lake, bullfrogs most likely.

The feeling never left but wasn’t as strong as by those canoes. I kept seeing things lurking in the shadows and didn’t trust it at all. As we head back we kept observing strange things all around and as we were walking we would stop occasionally to hear distant footsteps. As we neared the canoe area I hear my friend, the one originally with me alone yell “What the hell? Oh fuck that RUN!!” so we all bolted. I, the biggest one there nearly 6 foot, about 220 punds with a jacked up knee and an additional 30-40 pines of the cart and water jugs with me ran the fastest and we all made it back to the cabin.

After we set the water down me and my friend went just outside to get some air and I asked what he saw that made him react like that. He said when we reached the building I found the cart at with was right by the canoe area, in the dim bluish light attached to the building, he saw a man in his peripheral vision sprinting at us full speed but when he blinked the man had dissapeared. I believed him since I thought I heard the running and when I looked back as I ran I swore I saw the resemblance of a silhouetted man. The next morning we checked it out but saw nothing but a few worn out looking footprints. As we drove off that morning though, I got that feeling again as we drove past the fenced area.

To this day I’m not sure what happened that night. Of all these things were a strange coinsidence or is this shadowy man was stalking us. I don’t remember the name of the place so I can’t even look into it but I’m a little curious. I don’t know if we’ll ever go back there again but if we do I want to try being around there again to see if this man appears again or not. I’ll try and update if I ever find out more. I hope you all enjoyed I know it isn’t the scariest story ever but it was creepy for me and the others that witnessed it. Stay safe out there. You never know what or who is lurking in the shadows…

Hellish vampiric creature

This all happened around a month ago, in December of 2017. A while ago I posted about my encounter with a strange pale creature in the woods behind my mom’s house. I had prayed i would never see this creature again, but I have and I am begining to belive my initial belief that it was a rake-like creature was dead wrong.

It was early December and I was staying at my mom’s for awhile. It was about 10 pm when I decided to go to the gas station a few blocks away. There is a small forest behind my mother’s house, and I decided to cut through the path in the woods that would make the trip much quicker.

The whole time I was walking, I felt like I was being watched. The woods were dead silent, the only noise being my feet crunching the leaves. Apart from the uneasy feeling, I got to the gas station alright. I bought a six pack of beer and trecked back through the woods.

About half way there, I stumbled upon a strange sight. Laying on the ground has a small mass that certainly wasn’t there before. I shone my phone on it and it was a dead groundhog. The odd thing was there was no blood anywhere. At first, i didn’t see any sign of what killed it, until I noticed two holes in its neck.

As if on cue, I was hit with a foul odor that nearly overwhelmed me. And just like a horror movie, I heard a twig snap behind me. I spun around to see what it was, and God I wish I hadnt.

Standing there was a being, about 5 or 6 feet tall. It was deathly thin and pale. In its hand was other mass of fur, i assume it was another groundhog. It’s most striking feature were it’s glowing, orange eyes. For some reason, although I wanted to flee, i found myself unable to move.

A crooked, thin smile was etched across it’s face. And then it spoke. Oh god, how it spoke. I cannot explain how it spoke. It spoke like an alien trying to mimic human speech.

“Hello” it said in a truly ungodly voice. It dropped the groundhog and took a single step towards me. “Come here”

What happend next is what rocked me to my core. Huge, leathery wing appeared from out of its back. I don’t know how I didn’t see them before but they were massive, about 15 feet across by my estimate. It was like the Creeper from Jeepers Creepers, it’s wings must have been able somehow grow in or out of its body.

I managed to snap out of my trance and chucked a beer at it and ran home as fast as I could. I heard faint flapping noise behind me, which I can only assume was the creature flying after me, though I didn’t dare look back. As soon as I got in the door, I tripped over the steps and dropped the beers I somehow cared enough about to keep on to. I locked every door and window in the house and stayed up all night. My mom and sister looked at me like I was insane, but I know without a shadow of a doubt that what I saw was real.

The next morning, I went back to the woods. Around where I saw the creature were dead animals; rabbits, birds, squirells, and groundhogs. Just like the night before, there wasn’t a drop of blood anywhere. I can say with certainty that the creature had killed them. I don’t know what it was that I saw. It’s shape and proportions would suggest a gargoyle-like creature, but one with vampiric tastes. I will never go back into those woods again, period. People always say monsters are myths, after what I saw, I can say it’s not myth, it’s a fact that beasts lurk in the shadows.
